Hollie Capon - Apprenticeship Case Study

Level 3 HR Support

I joined Invotra in early 2021. Previously, I worked in a Recruitment agency for 7 years, started as their receptionist / office junior with little experience. This then lead me into a more senior administrative role and, due to my manager going on long term leave I stepped up into a Recruitment Consultant position, which made me realise Sales was not the area I wanted to be in. I then moved into a Business Support Executive role which was very varied and rewarding.

The agency I worked for was changing rapidly (due to staff changes and Covid) and I felt after 7 years I was ready to move on. I felt it was time for a new challenge and I have always been interested in HR so it seemed to be the natural path for me based on my experience. After updating my CV I made ONE application online, for the role I’m in now at Invotra – I never made another application! (it was meant to be)!

I joined Invotra during the pandemic and so I was onboarded remotely, but was very warmly welcomed on to the team and put at ease very quickly! My first major project was organising moving to our new offices.

My role is split into 4 main areas, HR (supporting the Head of HR), Facilities, Compliance and Business Administration, this includes but isn’t limited to – booking travel, arranging the health and safety for the office, onboarding new employees, screening candidates for the recruitment process, coordinating compliance audits and many other ad-hoc administrative tasks in between.

After 6 months into my role at Invotra I was offered the chance to do an apprenticeship, which is so valuable to my development.

I have been given a lot of support since I started, one of the pieces of advice I was given when I began my role was ‘there is no such thing as a silly question’ this made me feel really comfortable to ask anything I was unsure of.

Invotra also likes to push you outside of your comfort zone, whilst giving you support and encouragement which helps with progression. I started my apprenticeship after 6 months, which wasn’t originally planned when I took on this role, so that was exciting.

As the company grows, so does the HR and Business Administration job. We have hired a Business Administration Apprentice  to work in our team so I can support more in HR. I have about 1 year left of my apprenticeship course and many modules to complete, including a large project at the end.

I am very lucky to work for a company that supports apprentices and will help them anyway they can to ensure they succeed.

I have so much more to learn in the HR world and I’m looking forward to not only learning this in my apprenticeship but also learning in my role too. Once I complete my apprenticeship I hope to continue to help grow Invotra and support the company’s employees.
